Socialising and exercise top poll on wellbeing

Local people in Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire (BNSSG) have told health and care organisations that contact with family and friends and regular exercise are the two of the most important things that keep them happy, healthy and well.

Access to nature is also important for many people’s wellbeing, while work/life balance and financial concerns were cited by many as common barriers to a happy and healthy life.

The insight comes after more than 2,000 people across the area shared their views in a survey that is helping the local Integrated Care System (ICS) to shape priorities for the NHS, council and voluntary sector in the years ahead.

With just a few days until the end of the engagement exercise, local people are being encouraged to join the conversation by sharing their views – with anyone filling out the survey also in with a chance of winning up to £125 in high street shopping vouchers.

Chair of the system’s Integrated Care Board, Jeff Farrar, said:

“We want to make sure that health and social care is integrated and focussed around individual and population needs.

“To do this, we need to know everyone’s views on what is important to their health and wellbeing. I urge people – both the public and staff – to join in the engagement and tell us what matters most to you.”

Local health and care advocacy body Healthwatch has been helping local people take part in the exercise.

Chair of Healthwatch for Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire, Georgie Bigg, said:

“As the local, independent champion for users of health and care services, we really pleased to see so many people taking the time to have their say. But we need more people to give us their views to make a difference. I encourage everyone to take part and share your views so that services are designed that truly meet your needs.”

The engagement exercise will run until midnight on Sunday, 25 September 2022 and local people can have their say in an online survey or printed survey.
