GP collective action update – December 2024
20 December 2024
In Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire we know that some GPs have started making changes to the way they work as part of collective action.
Please be assured that GP services remain open, but you may see some changes as follows:
- GPs may return work to other healthcare providers where they should have completed that part of care.
- GPs may not take over prescribing medications that were started by specialists, unless there is funding for this work.
Repeat prescriptions for long-term conditions should not be impacted and routine long term condition reviews will continue.
Your practice may contact you direct or should provide an update on their website to let you know about the specific actions they may be taking over the coming months.
Please contact your practice as normal if you have a healthcare need, but also consider:
- The NHS website provides a wealth of information and self-care guidance
- You can use the NHS App for things like ordering repeat prescriptions – just remember to turn on notifications when you have registered
- Local pharmacists can also offer treatment for a wide range of conditions and can prescribe some medicines
- If you need help urgently but aren’t sure who to contact, phone NHS 111
- You can find out more about local services on the which services should I use page of our website.
If you are experiencing any difficulties that you think are as a result of collective action, it is important that you discuss these with your GP practice. If your concern cannot be addressed by the practice, you can raise it with our Customer Services team.
