Bristol panto stars support local ‘Stay Well This Winter’ campaign – oh yes they do!

The stars of Goldilocks and Three Bears have joined forces with the local NHS to help people in Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire stay warm and well this festive season.

With Christmas less than two weeks away, the cast of Goldilocks and the Three Bears at the Bristol Hippodrome are backing the ‘Stay Well This Winter’ campaign, which provides advice and guidance on how to manage your health, gives practical tips on keeping your home warm and safe, and details where you can access support in the community.

The panto stars met up with Bedminster pharmacist, Jess Mei Williams, to learn about the campaign.

Jess Mei said: “We’re really grateful to the cast of Goldilocks for taking time out of their busy schedule to support our winter campaign.

“We want everyone to stay well and enjoy the festive season, and that’s why we’re promoting easy things people can do to look after themselves and their loved ones to stay ‘just right’.

“For example, picking up repeat medication before the bank holidays is a simple way to avoid last-minute panics, and your local community pharmacy team can also tell you what you need in your family medical cabinet to deal with things like coughs, colds, indigestion and allergic reactions at home.

“It’s also good to remind yourself of how to get help over the bank holidays should you need more urgent care. Services including NHS 111, minor injury units and emergency pharmacies will all be open throughout the holiday period and you can check opening times on the local NHS website.”

Goldilocks, played by Lucy Conley, said: “I know only too well the importance of staying warm and eating well during the colder months, that’s why I snuck into the three bears house to eat baby bear’s porridge and have a sleep in her nice warm bed.”

Jess Mei added: “Winter can be tough for our wellbeing but there is lots you can do to protect yourself and your loved ones. We have lots of advice and guidance on the Stay Well This Winter website.”

Dr Joanne Medhurst, Chief Medical Officer at NHS Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire ICB, said: “Winter conditions can be bad for our health, especially if we already have a long-term health condition which makes us more vulnerable. That’s why it is so important to take action to protect your health and wellbeing.

“By getting vaccinated against flu and Covid-19, keeping your home warm when temperatures drop, ‘not too warm, not too cold’, and making small tweaks to avoid slips and trips at home, you can put yourself in the best shape to stay well this winter.

“With Christmas Day less than two weeks away, we also want to encourage people to order their repeat prescriptions now to ensure they have enough medication to cover the festive break.

“With so much going on in the run up to Christmas, it is easy to forget about those other everyday essentials such as prescription medicine.”

People can order their repeat prescriptions and find out if they are eligible for a free vaccine via the NHS App.
