Grant submissions to the National Institute for Health and Care Research
The Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire ICB Research Team can act as the host or contracting organisation for National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) grant applications. We provide the following functions:
- Grant application support
- Research costing/SoECAT support
- Contract management, including: Signing and holding the contract for the research with the funder (The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC)). This passes all of the finances, legal responsibilities and accountability for the project from the DHSC to us. This contract contains terms which are included to safeguard the spending of public money. Setting up and signing subcontracts (collaboration agreements) with the organisations doing the research – this could be Universities, other NHS organisations, or voluntary bodies. This agreement shares the responsibilities passed to us by DHSC with all the other collaborating organisations involved in delivering the research project.
- Financial oversight, including expenditure reporting to the funder.
- Assist with ensuring all collaborators are responsive and engaging as expected with the project.
- Ensuring all legal and financial responsibilities are handled effectively.
- Ensuring that intellectual property arrangements are set up effectively.
- Support with research governance queries through our dedicated delivery team
By naming us as host, we can generate Research Capability Funding (RCF), which we use to invest in local research development. RCF is only generated when NHS organisations host NIHR grants. It is a missed opportunity if NIHR grants are hosted by a University.
