David has been instrumental in developing a strong narrative and sense of place for South Gloucestershire, building on its unique location with an established heritage for research, innovation, technology, and manufacturing.
David has nearly 20 years experience operating at board level, and led the development of an ambitious £1 billion City Deal for the wider area, as well as being involved in the creation of the West of England Combined Authority. The council is also the accountable body for the Western Gateway Powerhouse, covering much of the South West and South Wales.
David has a passion for improving the lives of young people, reducing child poverty, and seeking to increase educational attainment. He is a strong advocate of values based leadership, and in the benefits of using technology to improve our lives; developing the South Gloucestershire Tec Arc, and most recently an innovative open Industrial Internet of Things research and development network/testbed.
David is a qualified accountant by profession, has a Masters in Business Administration, and is a local government peer officer. He is also a member of the SOLACE (Society of Local Authority Chief Executives) in Business Board, the SOLACE Policy Board, Deputy Chair of ALACE, and supports as one of South West Regional Chief Executives.
