NHS, local authority and voluntary sector staff are working harder than ever to get services back on track, to get waiting lists down and consistently deliver the best care.
We know change is needed. But we also know that many of the solutions we need are already here, working somewhere in the NHS today. In Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire we are already working hard to deliver change for our area and are supporting the NHS to tackle these challenges head on.
Change NHS was launched in October 2024 to hear your views, experiences and ideas to help shape the new 10 Year Health Plan for England. The engagement had over 270,000 contributions nationwide.
The government has now launched the 10 Year Health Plan for England to make the NHS fit for the future.
Your feedback in Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire
In Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire, we heard from 900 people and held 30 engagement sessions with members of the public, voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) organisations, and health and care staff. We shared this feedback as part of the national consultation and will also use it to support the development of our local work.
Our 10 Year Plan Engagement Report summarises the outputs from our engagement activities undertaken within Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire.
In summary, we listened and heard that:
Shift 1: Hospital to community
People are generally supportive of moving more care into the community, but it needs to be done with appropriate resource and funding.
Shift 2: Analogue to digital
People welcome digital improvements, particularly if it means organisations are better connected and it will result in more holistic care. However, there are concerns about digital exclusion, risk of losing human interactions, and data security.
Shift 3: Sickness to prevention
People felt that strengthening partner and community relationships is key to ensuring a supportive and positive approach to preventative care. This would require greater focus on educational resources, community assets and easy access to screening programmes.
