A mastectomy is an operation to remove a breast or breasts. It
is usually carried out to treat breast cancer. In some people it is considered
as a preventative option to remove the breast(s) to remove the risk of cancer. This
policy confirms that patients who are identified as having a high risk of
developing breast cancer are eligible to access a prophylactic mastectomy
without the need to secure additional funding.
